Xiaomi unveils the Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE with 48MP AI triple camera
Local updates as of 3rd April 2019
The new Mi 9 will be available in two variants:-
- The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version will retail for S$579 and will be available exclusively on Lazada from 13th April 2019.
- The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version will retail for S$699 and will be available at Mi Stores and as part of Singtel’s mobile plans from 13th April 2019.
In addition, the first 300 customers to purchase the 6GB+128GB version, exclusively at Mi Stores, will receive a 20W Mi Wireless Charging Pad and 27W Power Adapter bundle (RRP: S$49) for free.
Currently, Mi 9 will be available in Piano Black and Ocean Blue for both versions. Lavender Violet will be available at a later date.
Also available starting 13th April 2019 is the 20W Mi Wireless Charging Pad. It will retail for S$49 and will be available on Lazada and at Mi Stores.
There's no word yet on local availability for the Mi 9 SE version.

Xiaomi just announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 9 and its more compact variant, the Mi 9 SE.
The key highlight of the Mi 9 is its support for 20W wireless charging, which Xiaomi claims is a world's first for a smartphone. The company states that this is achieved through the use of a new wireless charging coil that improves the wireless charging efficiency and stability. Expected full charge wirelessly is just 90 minutes! It also supports 27W wired charging (adapter sold separately) which supports Qualcomm’s QC4+ standard, and enables Mi 9 to safely charge to 70% in just 30 minutes, and fully charge in 60 minutes.
Another notable feature is the AI triple camera with the main camera using the latest 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor. The 1/2-inch sensor is able to combine four pixels into one and this results in a 1.6μm large pixels. The other camera module is a 16MP ultra-wide lens which allows you to take wide landscapes. The 16MP camera is also capable of taking photos of objects as close as 4cm. The third camera consists of a 12MP telephoto lens which can deliver 2x optical zoom.
Other specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM, a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, an all-curved back cover design with a stylish holographic rainbow spectrum, an in-display fingerprint sensor, 64GB/128GB internal storage space options, and a 3,300mAh battery. There is a Transparent Edition which comes with 12GB RAM, 256GB internal storage space and a slightly better primary rear camera (7P lens and f/1.47 aperture).
The Mi 9 SE has a smaller 5.99-inch AMOLED display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 with 6GB RAM. It also has a triple-camera setup consisting of the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens and a 13MP super wide angle lens. It comes in 64GB and 128GB internal storage options. Other specs include a 3,070mAh battery, an in-display fingerprint sensor and a 20MP front-facing camera.
Pre-orders for the Mi 9 have already started in China, and it will go on sale on its website and other sales channels. It is priced at 2,999 yuan (~S$602, 6GB + 128GB), 3,299 yuan (~S$662, 8GB + 128GB) and 3,999 yuan (~S$803, 12GB + 256GB) respectively.
Pre-orders for the Mi 9 SE will begin on 1 March. The 6GB + 64GB model will be priced at 1,999 yuan (~S$401) and 2,299 yuan (~S$462) for the 6GB + 128GB model.
