Xiaomi has just announced in China the Mi Play, a 5.84-inch handset with a “water droplet” notch and dual rear cameras.

Priced at 1,099 RMB (~S$219), the Mi Play comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage (expandable with microSD), and is available in dream blue, twilight gold, and black color options. In addition, the display uses LCD and has a 2,280 x 1,080-pixel FHD+ resolution; the battery has a 3,000mAh battery and charges over micro-USB; and the fingerprint sensor is on the back of the phone.

The Mi Play is powered by the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, which has an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU operating up to 2.3GHz and an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU running up to 680MHz. This is a chip manufactured on TSMC’s 12nm FinFET production process.

In the photography department, the Mi Play sports dual 12MP cameras on the back and an 8MP selfie camera. The AI-assisted rear camera module uses electronic image stabilization and supports portrait mode and HDR shooting.

The Mi Play is now available to order in China, and it’s interesting to note that the 1,099 RMB sticker price includes a free 10GB/month data plan for a year. There’s no word if Xiaomi would bring this phone to other markets.
