Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0 will no longer receive notifications after today

Ah... the good old Nokia Lumia 1020.

For those still clinging on to the dying (dead?) mobile platform that is Windows Phone, here’s a PSA: Microsoft is ending mobile push notification services for Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 today, February 20, 2018.

What this means is that after today your phone will no longer receive any push notifications and any live tile updates. Also, the “Find my phone” feature will longer be able to locate your phone.

Microsoft, on the reason for this move:

Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0 have reached their end of support dates, and thus services for these versions of Windows will be discontinued over time.

Microsoft also says notification services will continue to work for Windows Phone 8.1 “at this time”, and phones on Windows 10 Mobile are “still fully supported”. The wordings suggest notification support for Windows Phone 8.1 is on its last legs; and for Windows 10 Mobile, well, the company has confirmed last October that it’s no longer building new features or hardware for the platform. So, go figure.

Just switch to Android or iOS already, folks.
