The Samsung Galaxy Note7 has been banned on all flights since October and anyone found carrying the device onto an airplane in the U.S could spend 10 years in jail. However, air crew on a Virgin America flight thought that someone was actively using the Galaxy Note7 after another passenger discovered a Wi-Fi hotspot named after the device.

Several announcements were made to ask the owner to press the call button and surrender his device.  As nobody responded, the captain of the flight announced that the plane would have to make an emergency landing and a search for the phone to be conducted.

"This isn't a joke. We're going to turn on the lights (it's 11pm) and search everyone's bag until we find it. This is the captain speaking. Apparently the plane is going to have to get diverted and searched if nobody fesses up soon."

Eventually, the owner of the Wi-Fi hotspot came forward and admitted that there was in fact no Galaxy Note7 onboard; he had changed his SSID wireless device to 'Samsung Galaxy Note 7_1097'. The plane subsequently landed at a later time and caused the following flight to be canceled.
