According to The Verge, Microsoft will start selling its Surface USB-C dongle (priced at US$79.99) starting end of this week to its commercial customers. While it’s unclear how consumers can get one, it’s likely that the adapter would be sold through the Microsoft Store or authorized resellers at a later time.

The “Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter” is designed for Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop devices, which unlike the Surface Book 2 don’t carry any USB-C port. After connecting the dongle to the Surface device via its fin-style Surface Connector charging port, users can then hook up USB-C peripherals or docking solutions to the Surface through the dongle’s USB-C port.

The USB-C dongle supports power passthrough for charging too. According to the specs, an “external power source with minimum power output of 27W and 12V” is required if you want to drive both the Surface device and an external display.
