Synology's impressive new SMB and enterprise offerings

Synology unleashed two new high security quad-core and dual-core powered NAS servers for the SMB. Both models introduce features a hardware encryption engine that ensures files stored stays secure and private.

“Small business workgroups expect a reliable and high performance storage solution for their increasing needs, while minimizing the initial investment. DS715 and DS215+ provide performance, reliability, and data encryption at a competitive price.” said Chad Chiang, Senior Product Manager, Synology Inc.

The DS715 is fitted with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor that is paired with 2GB of memory. It is rated to have read speeds of over 216MB/s and write speeds of over 142MB/s with Link Aggregation. Even with encryption, it is said to be capable of 205MB/s read speeds.

It supports Synology High Availability, providing redundancy in the event of network failure and ensuring a smooth transition between clustered servers. DS715 could also function as an NVR server supporting Surveillance Station with the capability of hosting and viewing up to 30 IP cameras (900 FPS @ 720p). It can also scale up to 7 drives when paired with one DX513 expansion unit.

The second model, the DS215+, has a 1.4GHz dual-core processor that is paired with 1GB of memory, and is rated at 209 MB/s read and 139 MB/s write with Link Aggregation. It is capable of achieving 145 MB/s read speeds with encryption.

Designed to be easy to use, the DS215+ comes with tool-less drive bay design, hot-swappable support, and dual Gigabit LAN ports with failover support. It also features two USB 3.0 ports and one eSATA port as an extensive external backup option.

Meanwhile, Synology also introduced the RC18015xs+ and RXD1215sas high-availability server solution. They feature high-availability cluster design, massive scalability of up to 180 drives, snapshot technology for point-in-time data recovery, and what it calls next generation storage efficiency.

“For today’s businesses, maintaining server uptime is the key to ensuring maximum productivity and minimized costs. The high-availability cluster design of RC18015xs+ and RXD1215sas is the ideal storage solution for enterprises seeking nonstop business continuity, scalability, and comprehensive data protection tools,” said Michael Wang, Product Manager, Synology Inc.

Synology DiskStation DS715, DS215+, RC18015xs+, and RXD1215sas are now shipping worldwide. Note that RC18015xs+ and RXD1215sas are designed to work as a high-availability cluster. Two RC18015xs+ and at least one RXD1215sas expansion unit are required to operate normally.
