Sony Mobile announces the SmartBand 2 and SmartWatch 3 to go with its flagships

Sony Mobile has just recently launched the Xperia Z5 series here in Malaysia. Complementing them are the Sony SmartBand 2 and SmartWatch 3 wearables.

The Sony SmartBand 2 inherits the same modular “core” design from its predecessor, and similarly, gives you readings on your overall fitness, excitement and stress levels throughout the day with its accelerometer and heart rate sensors. It tracks activities like walking, running and other workouts, mapping your heart rate for each of those activities. Get all that recorded data out on the Lifelog app that helps you make sense of it all as well as giving you motivational prompts based on your activity. You can also wear it to sleep, allowing it to track how well you slept, and to wake you up gently with its smart alarm clock function.

Fitness aside, the SmartBand 2 also helps you get every call, message, email or tweet sent to you with subtle vibrating notifications and pulsing RGB LEDs. You also get controls to the music playing on your mobile device, as well as an alert when you are 10 meters away from the said device, so that you do not lose your Xperia smartphone or tablet. It can keep doing all that for two days, regardless of the environment, as it has an IP68 rating.

The Sony SmartBand 2 is available in white, black, indigo and pink at Sony Stores, selected Sony Centres and authorized dealers. It retails at RM599.

Running Android Wear, the Sony SmartWatch 3 comes with a 1.6-inch, 320 x 320 TFT LCD Transflective display, allowing visibility even in bright sunlight. It comes with a stainless steel back panel, and an IP68 rating, making it rugged, as well as premium-looking.

The Android Wear OS means if you make use of Google Now, all the information you need will be sent to the SmartWatch 3, keeping you up-to-date with traffic and weather conditions, as well as other notifications, from messages to appointment reminders. You can even use it on its own without a mobile phone, as it comes with 4GB of internal storage, native music playback, a built-in microphone, an accelerometer, a compass, and gyro and GPS sensors.

The Sony SmartWatch 3 is available in black or silver, and retails at RM1,099 and RM1,399 respectively. Extra color straps are also available for RM199, in colors of Lime and Pink.

This generation, the SmartWatch 3 gets a more premium looking strap as well. <br> Image source: Sony Mobile.
