Samsung introduces line of Android powered multifunction printers
Samsung Malaysia Electronics today launched the MX4 Series Multifunction Printers . Powered by Android, these multifunction printers are designed to be more independent, intuitive, and scalable for all types of business environments.
“Samsung is a user-centric innovator. The MX4 Series will introduce Malaysian enterprises to an Android platform which will allow our business customers to experience greater multidimensional and advanced printing technologies. Our new printer line will enhance productivity for businesses seeking best-in-class technology for seamless integration into their work environment,” said Lee Sang Hoon, President, Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd.
The MX4 Series consists of four models, the X4300 series of A3 color MFPs, the K4350 series of A4 monochrome MFPs, M5370 series of A4 monochrome MFPs, M4580 series of A4 monochrome MFPs.
These printers features a 10.1-inch touchscreen paired with Samsung's Smart UX Center, the same technology featured on the GALAXY line of tablets and smartphones that makes printing without a PC a trivial task.
“Malaysian work styles are changing and evolving. Our B2B customers are becoming more mobile and untethered from their PCs. Samsung's new printing solutions features intuitive user interfaces, superior performance and increased efficiency. This is the perfect solution to integrate with the modern mobile and fluid workplace,” added Lee.
What makes the MX4 Series unique is that it is powered by Android OS. This gives the MX4 virtually limitless scalability. According to Gan Ta Loong, Printing Solutions Business Channel Sales and Supplies Head, SE Asia, Taiwan and Oceania Region, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd, there are currently 13 apps and six widgets available from the Samsung Printing App Center.
However, almost any Android-compatible app could be installed onto the MX4 series printer. Although Samsung representatives would not comment on the specific version of the Android OS used on the printers and saying that it is an OS that is based on Android, we manage to spot an icon that suggests the OS used is based on the older Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
When asked regarding the compatibility of the MX4 with mobile devices that run on other OSes, we were told that although the printers would be compatible as any networked printers, the features may not be as extensive.
In terms of connectivity, these MFPs also feature NFC Pro technology that offers more functionality and security than a standard NFC. Performance-wise, the MX4 touts what Samsung calls dual-performance technology with ultra-fast dual sided scanning, dual-core CPU, and 1,200 x 1,200 DPI plus ReCP technology. This translates to fast and seamless integration with Android-based systems.
The MX4 Series Multifunction Printers are now available, with the X4300 series priced between RM24,250 and RM37,500, the K4350 series priced between RM36,250 and RM47,500, the M5370 series priced between RM7,199.00 and RM8,899, and the M4580 series priced at RM6,499.
