Earlier today, Panasonic launched its latest mirrorless LUMIX camera, the GF9. Similar to many of its predecessors, the GF9 has a Micro Four Thirds sensor and an interchangeable lens system. Also, not unlike many modern cameras, the GF9 has a rear monitor that can be flipped upwards 180-degrees for selfies.

The Panasonic LUMIX GF9 is available in silver, black, orange and pink.

There's no optical low-pass filter, so the 16MP sensor is able to shoot photos with plenty of detail still intact, while autofocusing speed is as fast as 0.07 seconds.

This camera is able to record videos in 4K (3,820 x 2,160), and has a variety of features to help enhance your photos. Among these features include Focus Stacking and Post Focus. Focus Stacking lets you take a photo with the foreground, background and subject in focus by stacking the focus. Post Focus on the other hand lets you change the focus point after you've shot a photo, similar to the Lytro.

There aren't a lot of physical controls, but the LUMIX GF9 is still fairly easy to use.

More interestingly is the 4K PHOTO feature, where the camera takes a burst of photos at 30 fps. You can then select which photos (multiple images can be saved) you'd like to keep from this barrage of images. A maximum of 150 frames in five seconds can be shot with this feature.

Naturally, this camera also comes with Wi-Fi connectivity, which lets you instantly transfer your images to a connected smartphone, or use your smartphone as a remote controller for the camera. All you need to do is download the Panasonic Image app for Android or iOS.

Here's a sample image shot with the LUMIX GF9 with its creative filters enabled. Shot with Dynamic Monochrome mode, at 32mm, 1/200 seconds, f/6.3, ISO 200. Click to enlarge.

For more advanced users, you can shoot in RAW, and develop these photos in-camera.

The Panasonic LUMIX GF9 is priced at RM2,399 and will be available “soon” locally.
