Nintendo announced in a tweet that from today, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS games will be available on Wii U Virtual Console in North America. The highly anticipated news comes much cheer and joy.

Previously, 21 titles from the Nintendo 64 were made available on the Wii. These games are accessible from Wii U, but, through a separate and more convoluted Wii interface.

The inclusion of DS games was always seen as a perfect match. The Wii U GamePad was always thought as the perfect analogue to the DS touch screen. However, Nintendo says that it is going to support several layouts to emulate the dual-screen interface. For example by letting you send the top screen to your TV while you use the controller as the bottom half of the DS or keeping everything on the Wii U remote vertical and having both displays on the GamePad.
