Nikon's 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED has been updated

“The AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR is made for the perfectionist photographer, representing the pinnacle of NIKKOR imaging optics,” says Hiroaki Ono, General Manager of International Marketing Division Imaging Group, Nikon Singapore Pte Ltd.

An update to the well-loved AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED, the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR raises the bar by being the first in the NIKKOR range to feature an aspherical Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element which effectively corrects for lens aberrations. Nano Crystal Coat again makes an appearance, while the combination of the aspherical ED element, aspherical lenses and High Refractive Index (HRI) lens elements ensure that the lens retains details with minimal ghosting and flare.

Pairing this with an advanced Vibration Reduction (VR) system improves the usable range of the lens even further, giving you up to four stops of correction. There’s the option to shoot in Active or Normal modes to allow the VR system to best match what you’re shooting, and a new Silent Wave Motor (SWM) accelerates autofocus speeds by approximately 1.5 times compared to the original.

The AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR will be available late in August 2015, but pricing has yet to be announced.
