Nikon Supports Malaysian Heritage Through Photography at Mid Valley Exhibition

Nikon Malaysia has officially announced its support for the photo exhibition organized by Mid Valley Megamall, which runs from August 23 to September 22, 2013. Titled "Our Legacy", the exhibition is held in conjunction with Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations and honors Malaysian diversity in all forms including people, cultures, celebrations, lifestyles, places of worship, among many others.

“We are truly proud to be the exclusive photography brand to be associated with this photo exhibition in Mid Valley Megamall,” said David Ng, Nikon Malaysia General Manager of Consumer Products Marketing. “Our decision to support the event was not a difficult one, as we truly believe that pictures have their place in bringing society together in so many ways. We at Nikon continuously strive to create cameras that catch the heart of every image, to preserve moments in time as we progress as a community, so as to not lose sight of our rich heritage.”

Of the 56 photographs on display depicting life in Malaysia since its independence, 16 are provided by Nikon. These poignant images depict various facets of Malaysian life seen through the eyes of the "ordinary man", including a a heartwarming image of a child enjoying the cool seawater on a makeshift raft in her fishing village; a rarely seen image of a Chinese opera singer putting on her makeup before a performance; and a Hindu devotee bearing the ‘kavadi’ during the annual Thaipusam festival. Taken by 10 photographers and photojournalists in the country, the photographs include works by renowned Dr. Teh Ban Hup, Dome Nikong, Jason Matthew Tye, and Nikon Club Members - Aswad Yahya and Mohd Fakhrul Anwar Shaipuddin.

“We truly believe that we create a mark in the communities in which we operate, and it is our corporate responsibility to make this mark a positive one. Our participation in photography events such as this demonstrates our commitment towards improving technology in photography but also enrich the communities and lives in the process. Furthermore, it is a great way to enhance the shoppers’ experience in Mid Valley. We truly thank the management of Mid Valley to have Nikon as part of this exhibition,” added Ng.

As an organization at the frontline of cutting edge technology in the science of photography, Nikon believes in developing the art of photography as well. Towards this effort, Nikon Malaysia often organizes various initiatives of its own such as annual photography competitions and the Nikon Club, which organizes excursions and workshops for members to pick up photography skills, while learning from others. One recent activity was a visit to a Ramadhan Bazaar during the recent fasting month.

Visitors to Mid Valley Megamall can catch the photo exhibition from the North to South stretch of the mall’s Ground Floor to the 3rd Floor (North) and 3rd Floor Mezzanine.
