Netflix has just announced that it has acquired comic book publisher Millarworld.

Millarworld was founded by comic book legend, Mark Millar, who created comics like Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Wanted, and also worked with Marvel on stories like Civil War and Old Man Logan. This is Netflix's first acquisition. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

According to Netflix, the acquisition is part of the company's plans to "acquire intellectual property and ownership of stories featuring compelling characters and timeless, interwoven fictional worlds."

In addition, Netflix also said that they would work with Millarworld to bring "Millarworld’s portfolio of critically and fan-acclaimed character franchises to life through films, series and kids’ shows available exclusively to Netflix members globally."

Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos called Millar 'a modern day Stan Lee' and that Netflix 'can’t wait to harness the creative power of Millarworld to Netflix and start a new era in global storytelling.'

Millar, on the other hand, said that "This is only the third time in history a major comic book company has been purchased at this level. I’m so in love with what Netflix is doing and excited by their plans. Netflix is the future and Millarworld couldn’t have a better home."

As fans of Millar's work and Netflix's boldness and creativity, we can't wait to see the cool new shows the two will bring.
