NEC showcases the future at Innovative Solutions Fair

NEC Corporation of Malaysia with NEC Corporation held the first NEC Innovative Solutions Fair 2015 at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. The event, which was held on December 3 was themed “Creating value in the hyperconnected society”.

Eight seminar programs was held throughout the day, where experts from NEC shared their knowledge and expertise on subjects such as public safety, cyber security, smart energy, carrier network, enterprise solutions and more.

There were also over 30 exhibition booths, each displaying a new and practical inventions, innovations, and concepts that came straight from the research and development labs of NEC. Each is meant to prove to business owners, decision-makers, and various stakeholders how solutions can create value for people, business, and society.

Portable DNA Analyzer

One of the most impressive technology on display was the Portable DNA Analyzer; a 35 kg portable lab that could analyze DNA in 60 minutes. It is designed to be used by anyone and anywhere. This could mark a giant leap in forensics technology, a possibility that was once thought to be science fiction.

Another technology on display was GAZIRU, which is touted as the future experience in retail. The technology, which has never been seen in the APAC region, is currently being tested in Japan. The system uses standard webcam or the built-in camera(s) on a smart device to identify products and customers.

A cashier or a customer need to only wave the product in front of the camera for it to be registered in the POS system. Once all the items are tallied, the same system could use facial recognition as a payment verification method. No more long queues and no more need for cash.

Andrew Lee, Managing Director of NEC Corporation of Malaysia Sdn Bhd in his statement said: “Technology continues to progress and its adoption can spur change in communities and further lift the well-being of people. Working closely with our customers and business partners, NEC will continue to innovate and provide a comprehensive portfolio of technologies and solutions to solve the issues faced by the society today in Malaysia.”
