Colorful is one of the less prominent players in the component market, but it’s just made a bold gambit with a one-of-a-kind motherboard design that features an integrated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU. The board clearly ditches the ATX standard, and appears more suited for use in ultra-compact systems like an Intel NUC or some other mini PC.

In the picture above, the GeForce GTX 1070 GPU is located on the left, while the motherboard is on the right. The chip near the middle of the board is likely a bridge chip linking the GPU to the motherboard.

The proof-of-concept board is based on the budget Intel B150 chipset, which means it doesn’t support things like overclocking, RAID, or even have as many PCIe lanes as its Z170 counterparts. However, the GeForce GTX 1070 is still quite a force to be reckoned with – it offers performance on the level of the GeForce GTX Titan X – so any system that ends up adopting the design will be fairly powerful in its own right. Still, it's not clear whether the GPU used is actually some sort of mobile variant of the GeForce GTX 1070 as NVIDIA has not yet said how it plans to implement its Pascal chips in smaller, more mobile form factors (even if there are already rumors that it may do away with mobile versions of the cards).

Of course, there’s also no guarantee that the design will actually make it to market, but it is intriguing to say the least as it could potentially bring a level of performance yet unseen to mini PCs. It’s not likely to be cheap, but it isn’t that much of a stretch to see that it might appeal to users looking for a powerful and compact gaming PC.
