Montblanc has just launched its first pair of wireless active noise-cancelling headphones and they are called the MB 01.

Yup, I'm referring to the same Montblanc that's synonymous with luxury pens, and famous for its watches and leather goods.

Needless to say, the MB 01 is made with the finest materials. Aluminium for the head band and frame, soft sumptuous lambskin leather for the ear pads, and silicone for the ear cups. It's light too, weighing just 280g.

While it may be tempting to dismiss them at first glance, there's some evidence to suggest they may actually sound good. That's because Montblanc has reportedly tapped into the expertise of one Alex Rosson to help design the headphones.

Audiophiles will recognise Alex as one of the co-founders of Audeze, a household name in high-end headphones. That's a promising start.

Elsewhere, the Montblanc MB 01 charges via USB-C and supports multiple connections so you can be connected to multiple devices simultaneously.

The Montblanc MB 01 comes in three colourways: black, gray, and brown. Black and gray have silver aluminium frames, whereas the brown model comes with a gold aluminium frame.

The new Montblanc MB 01 goes up against some stiff competition with Sony's WH-1000XM3 and Bose' Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 being the most obvious contender.

However, I think a more appropriate rival is the Master & Dynamic MW65. Like the MB 01, the MW65 focuses on style, and a premium build and construction. And like the MB 01, it has a price tag to match.

Speaking of which, the Montblanc MB 01 headphones are available now and are priced at S$925.
