Microsoft releases Office 2019 for Windows and Mac
First announced end 2017 and available for beta testing since April 2018, Microsoft has announced that Office 2019 is now available for Windows and Mac. Available for commercial volume license customers since September 24, all other customers can get their hands on the office productivity suite in the coming few weeks.
In a nutshell, Office 2019 consists of the latest on-premises version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio, Access, and Publisher; and is targeted at users who haven’t bought into an Office 365 subscription, which gets a more rapid update cadence.
That said, for a standalone release, Office 2019 is a major update, as it packs a long list of features that have been added to Office 365 ProPlus over the last three years, including the new Morph and Zoom functions in PowerPoint 2019; enhancements to PowerPivot in Excel 2019; and new tools such as Read Aloud, Text Spacing, Focus Mode, and Focused Inbox in Word 2019 and Outlook 2019. Office 2019 also supports the roaming pencil case, pressure sensitivity, and tilt effects to help you create documents more naturally across the apps.
Microsoft has also taken the opportunity to announce several updates for its servers. Exchange Server 2019, Skype for Business Server 2019, SharePoint Server 2019, and Project Server 2019 will also be released in the coming weeks.
