Latest Windows 10 Insider Preview (Build 10565) adds new features

Microsoft has today released a new Window 10 preview build to the Fast ring. Build 10565 comes with several exciting new features, including the integration of Skype messaging, calling, and video capabilities into the Messaging, Phone, and Skype video universal Windows apps; tab preview in Microsoft Edge; favorites and Reading List items syncing in Edge; a few Cortana updates including the ability to understand your inked notes; and several UI tweaks (more vibrant title bars, new icons, etc.).

More crucially, Microsoft's also set out to improve the device activation process, letting you enter a Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 product key (used to activate the prior Windows version on the same device) to activate Windows 10. If you do a clean install of Windows 10 by booting off the media, you can also enter the product key from prior Windows versions on qualifying devices during setup.

As usual, this is a preview, so there are outstanding issues to be fixed. A list of that and issues fixed since Build 10525 and 10532 can be found in Microsoft’s latest blog post.

All in all, this is a pretty big update. Non-testers should see all these features in the next major Windows 10 update, known as ‘Threshold 2’, sometime in November.
