Hyper has just released a USB-C hub designed for the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iPad Pro.

It's called the Power 9-in-1 USB-C Hub and, as you might have already guessed from the name, features a whopping 9 ports in fairly standard hub body.

The 9 ports are as follows:

  • 3 x USB-A ports (USB 3.1)
  • 1 x USB-C PD (60W pass-through)
  • 1 HDMI (up to 4K, 30Hz)
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1 x microSD card reader
  • 1 x SD card reader
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio jack

It's not often that you see a USB-C hub pack this many ports, and it's rarer still to find one that combines Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with memory card readers — arguably the most requested ports by professionals.

Furthermore, since it was designed to work Apple's MacBooks and the iPad Pro, no drivers were required. Simply plug it in and you are good to go.

I spent about two weeks with the HyperDrive 9-in-1 USB-C hub and found it to be speedy. It's also extremely compact so it's easy to carry around. For many people, this could be the only USB-C hub they will ever need.

The HyperDrive Power 9-in-1 USB-C Hub has a list price of S$154.90 and is currently available at all iStudio and EpiCentre stores. You can also find it on MacLink's Lazada e-store.

Note: Although it's designed for the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iPad Pro, the HyperDrive Power 9-in-1 USB-C hub will also work with any other USB-C device, including Windows notebooks. It will also work with a 15-inch MacBook Pro, but the USB-C PD port might not provide enough power since the 15-inch MacBook Pro relies on an 87W charger. You'll need to power your 15-inch MacBook Pro separately if you want to use this hub.
