HP completes acquisition of Samsung's printer business

HP Inc. announced that it has officially acquired Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd's printer business at US$1.05 billion (~RM4.4 billion). The acquisition will further broaden HP's portfolio, in addition to speeding up its ability to disrupt the US$55 billion (~RM232 billion) A3 copier sector with high-end multifunction printing technology, while also making its A4 laser printing business stronger.

Samsung also provides intellectual property of over 6,500 print patents, as well as a formidable workforce of almost 1,300 researchers and engineers who are highly skilled in imaging electronics, supplies, accessories, and laser technology. Thanks to the acquisition, HP is able to provide the industry's most powerful portfolio of A3 multifunction printers, which offer simplicity and high performance.

The portfolio will enable customers to have more choices, uptime, and lower cost of ownership, as well as more economical color printing. The integrated portfolio also comes with HP Connection Inspector, HP Sure Start, run-time intrusion detection alongside whitelisting.  Following the acquisition, Samsung will make a US$100 million (~RM422 million) to US$300 million (~RM1.26 billion) equity investment in HP via open market purchases.
