HotShotz 2017 eSports tourney winners receive RM70,000 in cash prizes

Today is definitely a good day for the winners of the recent HotShotz 2017 eSports tournament, as they will finally be taking home the prizes they have battled to the ends of the earth for. All in all, the top three winners of the seven games that were contested during the tournament will be bringing home RM70,000 worth of cash prizes, TP-Link routers, and a corporate sponsorship attachment with the networking giant.

To be specific, the winners of each of the seven games will be bringing home RM5,000, while runner-ups and third-place winners will be rewarded with RM3,000 and RM2,000, respectively – not bad for a few days’ worth of hard work and determination.

“From the moment we kickstarted the first of our five qualifying rounds in May at University Malaysia and on to the two-day main event at KDU University College, the action has come fast and thick, and we are super pleased to focus the limelight on our winners, all of whom are amateurs,” said Karamjit Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Digital News Asia.

During the press conference that was held after the prize giving ceremony, Singh mentioned that he has big ambitions for HotShotz.

Not only is he planning to turn the eGames festival into an annual event, he hopes to be able to organize it in several states across Peninsular Malaysia, including Penang and Johor Bahru. He said that by doing so, it would hopefully attract participants from neighboring countries, such as Thailand and Singapore.

The ultimate goal, he said, would be to turn HotShotz into the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) of Southeast Asia.

The HotShotz 2017 prize giving ceremony took place earlier today at the KDU University College in Glenmarie.
