Google's Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Pixel 2 XL causes a slow down in performance

Every software update will fix some bugs while introducing new ones at the same time. The same goes for the Google Pixel 2 XL where some users experienced slowdowns in the operation of the phone after the recent Android 8.1 Oreo update.

Some Pixel 2 XL users shared on Google's official support forum that the fingerprint sensor appeared to slow down on Android 8.1 compared to Android 8.0. Apparently, it took "a good second" for the display to turn on. Other users also reported that the display is slow to turn on after pressing the power button.

Google is aware of the issue and reaching out to affected users to find out more. In the meantime, affected users claim that turning on the 'always-on display' feature will solve the issue.
