The Garmin Vivoactive 3 may be the fitness smartwatch for you
Since the wearables market has been dominated largely by affordable fitness trackers, Garmin just announced the Vivoactive 3 smartwatch with a more affordable price tag at IFA 2017.
As a fitness-centric smartwatch, the Vivoactive 3 packs many of the features that athletes want. The 1.2-inch round display (240 x 240 pixels) is visible under sunlight which makes it easier to check the training stats and time. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass against scratches and minor bump. The Vivoactive 3 is rated 5ATM for water resistance, which means it can be worn for swimming.
It has several sensors including a built-in GPS, a Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate monitor for continuous and session-based tracking, a barometric altimeter, a compass, an accelerometer, a thermometer. Garmin states that the Vivoactive 3 is preloaded with more than 15 GPS and indoor sports apps such as strength training, indoor rowing and yoga. It also can track V02 max and provide fitness age estimates so that users can monitor their fitness levels.
New features that are introduced on the Vivoactive 3 are the Side Swipe interface and Garmin Pay. The Side Swipe interface allows users to scroll or swipe through menus and widgets easily. Garmin Pay is similar to other mobile payment services; it relies on NFC and will work with many credit and debit cards from major banks.
With a battery life of up to 7 days in smartwatch mode, the Vivoactive 3 ranks among the top for fitness trackers. Another key advantage it has over the competition is the ConnectIQ store, where users can download watch faces, widgets and apps.
If you are wondering the differences between the Vivoactive 3 and the recently announced Vivosmart 3, the former comes with a bigger, color display, better battery life, and more fitness-centric features (e.g GPS, downloadable training plans, preloaded swim profiles). While the Vivoactive 3 is designed with athletes in mind, the Vivosmart 3 is targeted at the mass consumer who wants to upkeep an active lifestyle.
Priced from US$299.99 to US$329.99 (~RM1,274 to RM1,401), the Vivoactive 3 is available for purchase at Best Buy and Bestbuy.com.
