Fallout Shelter is finally on Android, gets hacked immediately

If you have been wondering what it’s like to experience nuclear winter, but didn’t have an iOS device to do so – because Fallout Shelter was, after all, only available on iOS devices – you can now experience it for yourself on your Android device courtesy of Bethesda, who has today made the game available for all Android users to relish in – for free!

But don’t for a second think you’ll be able to beat the game’s high score though, because despite it being barely a day since Fallout Shelter was launched on Android, it has already been hacked by a user named ‘Jake Poile’, who has managed to hack his way to the top by giving himself a score of two billion. The runner-up, a user named ‘Bytesize TestUser’, has a comparatively meager score of just 15,948.

Safe to say that this little niggle will probably be fixed once Bethesda catches wind of it, and that it wouldn’t deter the slew of gamers who have been patiently waiting for the game to launch on the Android platform.

When Fallout Shelter was first launched on the Apple App Store in June, gamers – regardless of whether they are familiar with the Fallout franchise – couldn’t help themselves but to turn completely head over heels for it. Why so? Because Fallout Shelter is one rare gem of a mobile game that goes completely against typical mobile game conventions, by doing away with paywall timers, paywall-blocked progressions, and the need for players to be online before they can actually play the game.

As a matter of fact, the game was so well-received, that it managed to become the third-highest top grossing game on the Apple App Store just days after its launch -- successfully dethroning the spot's long-standing occupant, the global phenomenon that is Candy Crush Saga. A week later, and Fallout Shelter managed to clinch the title of being the most-downloaded game on the Apple App Store in a total of 48 countries. Talk about being an overnight sensation.
