Facebook rolls out new publisher tool to help get rid of fake news

Non-publisher pages on Facebook are no longer allowed to overwrite link metadata in the Page Composer or Graph API. This is one of the many efforts Facebook has taken to eradicate fake news. Pages that have been used to publish fake news will be removed, despite them being able to use tools like Open Graph and Sharing Debugger.

Publishers who depend on overwriting link preview metadata to personalize how users view their content on Facebook can use a new tab in the Page Publishing Tools to continue customizing how their links look, and to signify link ownership. Pages that misuse this feature by posting content that does not comply with Facebook's Community Standards or misleading links will have their access to the tool revoked. Facebook will also evaluate how the tool will refine information quality as well as aiding publishers over the next few months.
