Coming this fall, shoppers will be able to use photos to search for products they have difficulty describing on eBay.  The feature, called Image Search, allows users to upload an image on the mobile app's search bar. Another feature, named Find It On eBay, displays listings relevant to photos shared by users via social networks will be introduced as well.

The forthcoming tools will utilize the latest AI developments like computer vision and deep machine learning to function. The deep learning model, known as a convolutional neural network, will be used to process the photos. The model's output provides a portrayal of the photo that can be compared to those of eBay's live listings. The photos are then ranked according to visual resemblance and eBay's open-source Kubernetes platform will deliver the search results.

For now, Find It On eBay will solely be available on Android, while Image Search will be compatible with both iOS and Android.
