After conquering your carpets and crown, Dyson is turning its attention to other areas of your home. Meet the new Lightcycle Morph.

To be sure, this isn’t Dyson’s first lamp (there’s the first Lightcycle), but this is certainly it’s most intelligent and versatile.

The Lightcycle Morph is available in two variants: desk and floor, and two colours: black on black and silver on white. I have been using the silver on white desk variant for the past few days and I think it looks functional and industrial, but also stylish at the same time. I think its brushed aluminium finish is what makes it look so chic.

Anyhow, it shares many of the same tech as the first Lightcycle but it’s more flexible – hence the Morph moniker.

Dyson says it’s four lamps in one and can be used as an indirect light, a task light, a feature light, or as an ambient light.

To do that, the stand is capable of swivelling freely on its base. The arm rotates and swivels too, so users have a lot of flexibility in directing the light. My only gripe is that it isn’t height adjustable. They point it up towards the ceiling or wall, or down onto a table or sofa. There's even a magnetic sealing mechanism that turns the Lightcycle Morph into something like a glow stick (very cool).

The best way to show this is to watch this video.

Multiple modes aside, its lamp can also adapt to your task and time of day. The Lightcycle Morph's six bright LED lights - three warm, three white – can quickly switch and mix to provide a wide spectrum of white to warm lighting.

Speaking of which, these are high quality LED lights powered by a Dyson-designed custom LED driver. This means even, consistent, and bright lighting.

It's also built to last too. LED lights get warm and this may affect longevity. To ensure the lights stay cool, the Lightcycle Morph uses a vapour chamber copper heatpipe to draw heat away from the light. This way, Dyson claims the LEDs can last for up to 60 years.

There's also a Floor variant for those looking for a standing floor lamp. (Image source: Dyson)

You can pair the lamp to your phone with the Dyson Link app so that it can adapt to your location and time. Used this way, it gives off white light in the day and gradually transitions to warm light during the evening and night to help you wind down.

You can also enter your birth year and have the lamp adjust for your age. Apparently, a 65-year-old needs four times as much as light to see clearly as a 20-year-old.

Dyson says this is crucial and helpful and it helps fine tune our 'circadian rhythm' – the fancy term for our own body clock.

I have only been using it for the past few days so I can't give a verdict on that yet. What I can say for now is that the Lightcycle Morph is wonderfully built, really easy to setup and use, and provides high-quality light.

I also like how there's a built-in USB-C charger that provides 7.5W of charging. That's very convenient for charging phones and tablets, even if it's not really powerful and fast.

So far, I'm loving the Lightcycle Morph. But like other Dyson products, it comes with a hefty price tag.

The Dyson Lightcycle Morph is available now and the Desk variant is priced at S$799 while the Floor variant is S$1,199. Both variants are available in black on black and white on silver to match your homes. You can buy them from the Dyson website.

To experience them, you can go to the Dyson Service Centre & Demo Store at Capitol Piazza and Dyson Demo Zone at Westgate Mall.
