CES 2016: Introducing Sony's new HT-NT5 and the HT-CT790

Wireless multi-room audio may only just be starting to catch on, but Sony is already pushing forward with new technologies to bring them beyond just playing audio simultaneously on connected devices. ‘Wireless Surround” and “Wireless Stereo” are two of these technologies, and we’ll see the new sound bars are the first to implement them.

The new HT-NT5 2.1ch Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer that’s built to fully support High-Resolution Audio playback, with support for 4K and High Dynamic Range content from major studios via HDMI HDCP 2.2. Multi-room capabilities are enabled via the SongPal app, and both Spotify Connect and Google Cast technologies are built-in, so you can easily beam music over to the sound bar from your mobile device or laptop.

All of the audio is driven by 3-way speakers that are powered by six discrete amplifiers that deliver a total output of 400W of sound, while DSEE HX and S-Force Pro Front Surround technologies have also been implemented to give you the best audio experience whether you’re listening to your favorite tunes or watching the latest movies.

The HT-CT790 on the other hand, is a premium sound bar that also comes with wireless subwoofer and support for 4K and High Dynamic Range content via HDCP 2.2. It also supports Google Cast and Spotify Connect, and is multi-room capable via the Songpal app.

This model also offers LDAC support for high quality audio streaming over Bluetooth and provides multiple HDMI inputs so you can plug all your devices in. The HT-CT790’s drivers give a total output of 330W, giving you plenty of oomph for maximum viewing pleasure.

No pricing or availability information has been announced yet, but the basic specifications for the HT-NT5 and the HT-CT790 are already available on the Sony UK website.
