Carousell goes in detail about its service and mentions future plans

Lucas Ngoo, co-founder and CTO of Carousell.

Earlier today, we had an opportunity to have a chat with Lucas Ngoo, who is the co-founder and CTO of Carousell.

Carousell is a marketplace where consumers can buy and sell items of all types. Lucas says that he wants Carousell to be the go-to marketplace whenever a customer wants to purchase an item and that this is a noble way to drive digital entrepreneurship. Carousell works to deliver a localized experience for shoppers and operates in many countries throughout Southeast Asia such as Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Carousell is a platform that caters to all demographics. On the mobile app or desktop website, buyers and sellers may leave mutual feedback after making a purchase.

To ensure that buyers do not experience fraudulent transactions, potential buyers are advised to look at the ratings of a seller, and they may also report a suspicious seller. Lucas also adds that Carousell uses algorithms to identify if a suspected seller is in fact legitimate or otherwise.

In addition to letting users become their own entrepreneurs, Carousell also connects users with similar interests to form groups, where all related listings can be found. It also has plans to incorporate machine learning and AI into the app, so that upon taking a photo of the product that is to be sold, the item will already be classified, which will further speed up the listing time of an item.

Further, Carousell aims to work on a payment system that customers can use within the mobile app to provide greater shopping convenience, but there is no word as to when the feature will be rolled out.

It wants to concentrate on expanding more markets throughout the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru alongside diversifying its product range, so that it can include products such as property and cars.

There is a desktop site for Carousell, or shoppers may download the app for free on Google Play or Apple Store.
