Canon's EOS M100 is the perfect first camera for those who love taking selfies

Canon very recently announced the EOS M100, the youngest member of the EOS M family of mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. This is one camera that’s aimed at smartphone photographers, and other people looking to pick up their first camera. While smartphone cameras may have taken over the market for compact cameras, Canon believes that the M100 is the perfect complement to a lifestyle that’s dominated by selfies and food shots.

And it’s got pretty capable innards as well. It sports the same 24.2MP APS-C sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus as the more expensive M5 and M6 mirrorless cameras, as well as the same DIGIC-7 processor. It also happens to be the smallest among Canon’s mirrorless cameras.

Other features that you get to better complement your lifestyle of selfies and food photos are a Smooth Skin feature that works much like the beautification mode that you find in smartphones, a Creative Assist feature that translates photography jargon like ‘bokeh’ to 'background defocus', while also offering a simplified method to getting the effect you want. There’s also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity for you to immediately push your shots to your phone and up onto social media.

The Canon EOS M100 comes in three colors – Gray, White and Black. You can get it with the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens, or with both the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM and EF-M22 IS STM lenses. For a single lens combo, it’s priced at RM2,499, and the camera with both lenses is priced at RM3,099.
