ASUS today announced the availability of the ZenFone 2 in the Southeast Asia region at the Experience 2Morrow press event in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Building on the enthusiastic reception of the first-generation ZenFone in the region, the ZenFone 2 features the Zen-inspired design, uncompromising performance and a premium user experience to its users.

"We are very excited to bring ZenFone 2 to consumers in Southeast Asia," said ASUS CEO Jerry Shen. "ASUS believes that the best technology should be used by a mass audience, and we have drawn on our considerable engineering expertise to create this empowering luxury for everyone to enjoy. Since its launch last year, ZenFone has been beloved by consumers and has won 238 awards worldwide," said Jerry Shen, CEO, ASUS.

The 5.5-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 resolution) IPS display on the ZenFone 2 has a wide 178-degree viewing angle and ASUS-exclusive TruVivid technology, which delivers amazing brightness and brilliant colors.

Also equipped with the ZenFone 2 is the SonicMaster technology. This means four times more powerful sound output and deeper bass, as well as twice the pitch compared to its predecessor.

The new ZenFone 2 features a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel secondary camera. There is also what ASUS calls the Real Tone Dual LED flash and a blue glass infrared filter for the main camera, while the front-facing camera features a wide, 85-degree field of view designed for selfies and a ZenUI Selfie Panorama mode for 140-degrees panoramic selfies.

The ZenFone 2 is also powered by the latest 64-bit Intel Atom Super Quad Core processor, and is the world's first smartphone to be fitted with up to 4GB of 64-bit dual-channel RAM. These ensure fast file transfer speeds and smooth multitasking.

“Intel is showing velocity across the full spectrum of mobility, and being chosen by ASUS for ZenFone is strong evidence of our progress. We are proud that our long standing partnership with ASUS is delivering innovation again. With the ZenFone 2, ASUS is giving consumers a great mobile experience in a sleek form factor, combining the 64-bit Intel Atom processor with Intel’s LTE-Advanced Intel XMM 7260 solution,” said Robby Swinnen, President and General Manager, Intel Asia-Pacific and Japan region.

There are multiple spec configurations of the ASUS ZenFone 2, with the choice of a 1.8 GHz Z3560  or a 2.3 GHz Z3580 processor, a choice of 2GB or 4GB RAM, and internal storage choices of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The prices for these range from IDR2,699,000 (approx. RM757) to IDR4,499,000 (approx. RM1,264). ASUS is reluctant to reveal local pricing, but says that there will be another event in the coming weeks where the local prices will be announced.
