The public beta of macOS Big Sur is finally available

It has taken a little while longer than expected by the public beta of macOS Big Sur is finally here.

It joins the public betas of iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and tvOS 14, which have been available since early July.

macOS Big Sur is a pretty big deal because it's designed to run natively on Apple's upcoming custom processors and it also features an extensive design overhaul.

There are also huge updates to Apple's own apps such as Messages, Maps, and Safari. Messages, for example, will finally be getting Memoji and Effects.

To try your hand out at macOS Big Sur, head to the Apple Beta Software Program page and sign up.

It goes without saying that we should only install macOS Big Sur on a secondary device since beta versions of macOS might be unstable and could have bugs.

macOS Big Sur will run on the following devices:

  • 2015 and later MacBook
  • 2013 and later MacBook Air
  • Late 2013 and later MacBook Pro
  • 2014 and later iMac
  • 2017 and later iMac Pro
  • 2014 and later Mac mini
  • 2013 and later Mac Pro
