It's finally here. macOS Big Sur is finally available to download.

To recap, macOS Big Sur was announced earlier this year at WWDC 2020. Not only was it designed to run on the new Apple Silicon – M1 – it also has a new look and feel as well as numerous tweaks and updates.

Some key updates include the new Control Centre – an idea borrowed from iOS – and a Notification Centre.

Safari has been revamped to run faster and smoother. It also now has a customisable start page.

Messages is another app that has got a big update and it's now more similar to the Messages app on iOS, with support for pinned conversations, group chat, memoji, and more.

Brace yourselves, it's a big update.

You can update your Mac now by clicking on the Apple icon on the top left corner, and then System Preferences, and Software Update. You are recommended to back up your system first before updating.

Finally, if you are experiencing problems updating, that's because Apple ran into server issues earlier but it seems to have been largely resolved.
