The honor 9 is, by technicality, supposed to be the original follow-up to the honor 8.
The phone has been making its rounds in Europe (we even saw it during our trip to Berlin for IFA 2017). Sadly, Huawei told us that they weren't planning on bringing the honor 9 into Malaysia (not yet, anyway), lest it cannibalizes the sales of the honor 8 Pro.
The packaging for the honor 9 is pretty stock standard: like all Huawei's mobile devices, the box features a compact slide-in, slide-out design for both the phone and the boxes. Accessory-wise, Huawei has kept it minimal with just a manual, a power plug, and a USB Type-C cable.
Specs-wise, the honor 9 features a 5.15-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) curved glass display, a HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC, between 4GB and 6GB of RAM, either 64GB or 128GB internal storage, and a large 3,200mAh battery.
Like its predecessors and cousins from Huawei, the honor 9 comes with a dual 20MP + 12MP main camera setup. And yes, it can shoot in Monochrome mode. We checked.
