Overview

The first quarter of 2014 is proving to be an exciting time for smartphone owners, particularly of the Android variety. In fact, we are seeing more than a fair share of high-end smartphones coming from major players like HTC, Samsung and Sony, as well as relative newcomers OnePlus and Oppo. Many users will likely have difficulty making a decision as to which flagship smartphone to purchase. As such, we have put together a direct head-to-head comparison of each smartphone to highlight their respective features and specifications.

OnePlus boasts that its One smartphone will be the 2014 flagship killer, but let's see how it fares compare to the other flagships, such as Oppo Find 7, with its 5.5-inch screen with Quad HD resolution at 2560 x 1440; the Samsung GALAXY S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, both of which offers dust and water resistance, or the HTC One (M8), with its stereo front-facing speaker design.

The 20.7MP camera on the Xperia Z2 looks impressive on paper, but the image quality falters somewhat in terms of natural color reproduction and image grain. The Oppo Find 7 and OnePlus One, on the other hand,  have the ability to shoot in low light.
Aesthetics

  • Full aluminium chassis with glass rear panel.
  • 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2mm
  • 163g
Aesthetics are always subjective, but we felt that the polycarbonate-clad GALAXY S5 doesn't have the same premium feel as the other models. Between the Xperia Z2, One (M8) and Find 7, the three phones will have a tough battle as they offer premium metal and glass designs that look and handle well.
Dust and Water Resistance No No IP67 No  IP58 The IP67-rated GALAXY S5 is better protected against dust, but the IP58-rated Xperia Z2 is better protected against water. The GALAXY S5 doesn't have a tight seal surrounding the edges of the removable back cover to ensure full water protection. With such compromise, the Xperia Z2 (with its non-removable battery) is a clear winner in this category.
