CES 2019: It's raining 8K and 4K TVs

Yes, yes, quality 4K content is already hard to come by, but that isn't going to stop TV manufacturers from coming out with... 8K TVs. Samsung is clearly pushing the hardest for 8K to take off. How so? Most brands are only testing the market with one or two screen sizes, but Samsung has decided to make five, from 65 to 98 inches. For those with money to burn, you're going to have a hard time deciding between the Samsung 98-inch QLED 8K TV or this LG 88-inch 8K OLED TV in 2019.

Luckily, there are still plenty of new 4K UHD TVs for the rest of us. Outside of TV tech like picture engines, backlight systems, and rollable screens, two things truly caught us by surprise this CES. One is the number of TVs that will support Apple's AirPlay 2 and HomeKit; the other is the iTunes Movies and TV Shows app (a Tizen app, no less!) that's coming exclusively to Samsung TVs. Apple didn't have a booth at CES, but its presence is strongly felt.

Anyway, for those who successfully shunned the barrage of CES news last week and want to catch up now, here's a list of the most important TV announcements to start you off.
