The DS1817 is an 8-bay NAS that can hold a capacity of up to 180TB. Powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core processor and 8GB of RAM, this NAS is capable of a read and write performance of 1,577MB/s and 739MB/s in RAID 5 due to the 10GbE interface.

The DS1517, on the other hand, is a 5-bay NAS that is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. With read and write performance of 449MB/s and 436MB/s, the DS1517 is an ideal upgrade for growing businesses.

Both models support DiskStation Manager (DSM) 6.1, which provides businesses with a convenient way of managing their centralized data backup. In addition, both the DS1817 and DS1417 have a limited three-year warranty and a five-year extended warranty too.

Synology's second big announcement is the official release of Presto File Server, an application that will assist users in speeding up transfers of massive amounts of data over WAN.

Thanks to Synology Internet Transfer Accelerator (SITA) technology, Presto is able to overcome unstable and high-latency connections that hinder long distance large file transfers. In addition to speedy transfers, Presto assures users that its interface is intuitive and more importantly  secure due to AES encryption.
