Symantec Talks Danger of Android Malware

Android users are advised to be wary when downloading apps from untrusted sources, and opening links in emails from unknown senders

Symantec’s Security Response team has published an analysis of a malware that targets Android users for personal information. The malware is known as Android.Exprespam, and though it was discovered only recently, analysis have shown that scammers are having a lot of success with the malware.

The malware installs a fake market called Android Express’s Play, which has drawn over 3,000 visits a week from January 13 to January 20, resulting in the potential theft of between 75,000 to 450,000 pieces of personal information.

Symantec advises Android users to avoid using links in emails from unknown sources and only download apps from well-known and trusted app vendors. They should also install a security app such as Norton Mobile Security or Symantec Mobile Security on their devices.
