Spotify’s Web Player is no longer compatible with Safari

Spotify users who have been streaming their favorite tunes via Safari will now need to find another way to get their music fix, as multiple users have reported that Spotify’s Web Player is no longer working on Apple’s web browser.

Upon visiting the Spotify Web Player on Safari, users will be greeted with the message: "This browser doesn't support Spotify Web Player. Switch browsers or download Spotify for your desktop."

So, why is this happening? Mac Generation believes that this could have something to do with Google’s Widevine copy protection plugin, which Spotify uses, but Apple doesn’t support, citing security reasons.

Nonetheless, this recent development should only be a minor inconvenience for Spotify listeners on Safari, since there are plenty of other browsers out there that they can use to circumvent this issue, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. Of course, there’s also the option to use Spotify dedicated Mac app as well.
