While many of our eyes and ears are transfixed on the many news and Twitter updates coming from the States due to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony Malaysia decides to start the new year right by launching three new devices that include the Xperia Tablet S and two new smartphones: the Xperia V and Xperia TX.

The launch took place in the East Atrium of Mid Valley (in front of Uniqlo) where it will also serve as a roadshow from today till Sunday (January 13, 2013). At this roadshow, not only will Sony fans and consumers be able to check out the new devices but they can also take part in a few activities and win attractive prizes. So if you have some spare time or maybe want to do a little gadget retail therapy, this may be a good stop to make.

On to the devices, first off let's talk about the new smartphones, the highly anticipated Xperia TX (featured in the latest James Bond movie: Skyfall) and the LTE-enabled Xperia V. With just a sweeping glance, you will know that this is a Sony Xperia device as both are based on the same design element first introduced in the award-winning Xperia arc and Xperia arc S which combine a slim form factor with an emphasis on the display for excellent viewing.

Although it may not come with a high-powered laser cutter or remote control for your Aston Martin, the Xperia TX will still make you feel like a sophisticated secret agent as it comes with plenty of features which are highlighted below:

  • 4.6-inch HD Reality Display powered by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine for lifelike images and crystal clarity
  • 13-megapixel fast capture camera that goes from sleep mode to snap in just over a second
  • The rear camera is able to record videos in Full 1080p HD video, while the front camera is able to record videos in 720p HD, promising the highest quality content
  • Easy connectivity 'One-touch' function enabled by NFC
  • PlayStation Certified so you can enjoy high-quality console games on your phone
  • The latest 1.5GHz dual-core processor also gives the Xperia TX better battery life, snappy performance and ultra sharp graphics
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, upgradeable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • MHL connectivity for viewing content on a big screen without the need for a charger
  • Available in Black, White and Pink colors
  • RRP: RM1,599

The Xperia V shares many of the same features of the Xperia TX however, with LTE networks just looming around the corner for Malaysians, the Xperia V would be a great choice for those who want superfast network performance. Here are some of the Xperia V's defining features:

  • 4.3-inch HD Reality Display powered by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 for razor-sharp clarity
  • 13-megapixel fast capture camera with full HD video recording
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor that gives it fast performance, better battery life and console-like graphics
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, upgradeable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • LTE for the fastest data download speeds
  • Easier connectivity with 'One-touch' enabled by NFC
  • Clear Audio+ for the highest level of sound quality
  • PlayStation Certified
  • IP55/57+ certification which means the Xperia V has the highest levels of dust and water resistance in a smartphone and can even be immersed in 1m of water for up to 30 minutes
  • MHL connectivity for viewing content on a big screen
  • Available from end of January in Black and White colors
  • RRP: RM1,599

Finally, we then come to the star of the show, the XPERIA Tablet S which looks much like its predecessor, the Sony Tablet S, but is now thinner and lighter, using the same premium materials for a devilishly good look and comfortable handling. The new Xperia Tablet S is built using NVIDIA's powerful quad-core mobile processor, the Tegra 3 and runs on Android 4.0.3 so users will get all the power they need to enjoy games, apps and multimedia. Other cool features include:

  • ClearAudio+ mode that enhances the tablet's audio quality with ultimate clarity and presence across a wide spectrum from deep lows to crisp highs
  • A splash-proof body so that users can take it with them anywhere they go and not worry about nasty accidents involving water
  • The 6,000mAh battery is said to be able to provide up to 10 hours Internet browsing or 12 hours video playback time which in turn means users will be able to use it for hours on end
  • With a few minutes of setting up, the Xperia Tablet S can be used to control your whole entertainment set-up from the comfort of your couch. The infrared remote control is enhanced with a Macro function that stores a time-saving sequence of commands for instant recall.
  • The Sony-unique 'Small Apps' allows users to do more like changing channels or adjusting the volume while browsing TV programs choices online.
  • Guest Mode enables users to create multiple individual profiles for family members and visitors so they won't have to worry about their apps or files getting accidentally deleted. These profiles can even be set with different wallpapers, icons and apps to make the experience truly personal.
  • RRP: WiFi + 3G & 16GB – RM1,799 / WiFi + 3G & 32GB – RM1,999 / WiFi & 16GB – RM1,399
