Samsung has a conceptual Gear S3 smart pocket watch with Swiss-made movement
Some might say it’s just Samsung showing off, but many can agree that the conceptual Samsung Gear S3 displayed at Baselworld 2017 is indeed novel.
The Korean electronics company displayed various conceptual timepieces at the Swizz convention – one of which is a Gear S3 in a pocket watch form factor, complete with Swiss-made mechanical movement and a premium finish.
“We understand that a watch is more than just a time keeper, it caters to personal style and interests. The Gear S3 takes convenience, style and innovation to the next level, while retaining a commitment to quality craftsmanship,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
The Gear S3 smart pocket watch takes the traditional timepiece’s design, but Samsung replaced the insides with their own hardware and software. The back of the case features the conventional Swiss mechanism, and the lid includes a compass.
The other conceptual Samsung Gear S3 wristwatches use the Gear S3 design, but the designer swaps out digital internal parts for Swiss-made mechanical parts. All the conceptual watches were jointly designed with Swizterland-based luxury watch designer, Yvan Arpa.
Baselworld is a watch and jewelry convention based in Switzerland, and this year marks its 100th year running thus far. Smartwatches are showcased alongside traditional watch brands like Rolex, Fossil, and Tudor.
