Nikon Announces Three COOLPIX Cameras and a New FX Lenses
Nikon has announced three new COOLPIX cameras, the COOLPIX S3500, the advanced compact P330 and the superzoom L320. Rounding up the new releases is a new FX lens, the AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR. Pricing and availability for all the new products will be announced at a later date.
The successor to the COOLPIX S3300, the S3500 features a 7x optical zoom, covering a focal length of 26mm to 182mm. It also squeezes a 20.1MP sensor in a compact body that comes in eight color options: black, red, purple, orange, silver, pink and an additional two options with a pink or blue pattern on the front cover.
The P330 sports a NIKKOR lens that is capable of shooting at f/1.8 and has 5x optical zoom, with a 35mm equivalent of 24mm to 120mm. It also has a 12.2MP 1/1.7-in. backside illumination CMOS sensor. The P330 is capable of shooting RAW images and 1080/60i movies with stereo sound. A GPS function lets you record shooting location information in your images and movies.
A superzoom camera, the L320 is capable of 26x optical zoom, from 22.5mm to 585mm (35mm equivalent). The L320 also comes with a lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) component for clearer shots. Equipped with a 16.1MP CCD sensor, the L320 features a 3-inch TFT LCD monitor and runs on AA-size batteries for convenience.
AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR
The latest FX lens, the AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR makes it a versatile lens due to its wide focal length range. Constructed with a new optical design utilizing four ED lens elements and one super ED lens element, the lens also sports a Nano Crystal Coat which effectively reduces ghost and flare; a Vibration Reduction (VR) function that enables compensation for camera shake equivalent to a 4-step increase in shutter speed (tested in accordance with CIPA guidelines at a focal length of 400 mm); and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) that enables quiet autofocusing. The lens is capable of three focus modes—A/M (autofocus with manual override, AF priority), M/A (autofocus with manual override, manual priority) and M (manual).
