Malaysians Won the IBM SmartCamp ASEAN 2013
Slope monitoring enterprise Pembinaan TMC Sistem Sdn Bhd beat five other South-east Asian to win the IBM SmartCamp ASEAN 2013 regional. Their winning entry was a cloud-based early warning system that predicts landslides using a system of sensors that can pinpoint possible landslides with up to 2mm of accuracy.
“We were surprised to be the winner. We had very strong competitors from our fellow ASEAN finalists. With this win, we hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with IBM especially in terms of SoftLayer and Informix technologies and develop a solution that’s reliable and proven in the marketplace,” said Pembinaan TMC Sistem Sdn Bhd Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Wong Joe Foong.
He added that the idea for the system came from his first-hand experience when the Gua Tempurung landslide a few years ago.
