MacBook Pro with Retina Display Gets Processor Updates and Lower Starting Prices

Apple today announced that its MacBook Pro with Retina display lineup is receiving updated processors and lower starting prices. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display that was first announced in October last year now starts at RM4,599, compared to the previous starting price of RM5,299. The CPU remains the same, which is a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 ‘Ivy Bridge’ processor (Turbo Boost speed up to 3.1GHz) with 3MB shared L3 cache. Memory and flash storage also remain at 8GB and 128GB respectively. The higher-end version that sports 256GB flash storage gets a small speed bump (from 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 to 2.6GHz) and an even more affordable price of RM5,299 (previously, it was RM6,199).

The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display lineup won’t be getting a price cut; however, the RM6,799 base model now gets a new 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost speed up to 3.4GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache (previously, it was 2.3GHz). Also, the top-of-the-line RM8,699 model now gets a new 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost speed up to 3.7GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache (previously, it was 2.6GHz). While its flash storage capacity remains the same at 512GB, Apple has increased the RAM from 8GB to 16GB.

The updated MacBook Pro with Retina display models are available today through the Apple Online Store and Apple Authorized Resellers.
