HP Wins Itanium Litigation Court Ruling Against Oracle

HP (Hewlett-Packard) has won a court ruling in relation with Oracle and the Intel Itanium platform. The Superior Court of State of California, Santa Clara County, has confirmed the existence of a contract between HP and Oracle that requires the latter to provide its software product to HP's Itanium-based servers.

The Court order had declared that it is in favor of HP and against Oracle on both the breach of contract and promissory estoppel causes of action brought by HP. Oracle is required to continue to offer its product suite on HP's Itanium-based server platforms and the former is obliged to do so until HP discontinues the sales of Itanium-based servers.

The Itanium platform is an architecture that originated from HP and was later jointly developed by HP and Intel.
