Guess which two iPhone models are selling well this year?
Although Apple does not break iPhone sales down by model, we now have an estimate of how well the three iPhone models are faring in the market, thanks to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In his latest investor note, Kuo expects strong demand for the iPhone X to continue in 2018 as consumers drop their initial concerns about some features, such as the lack of Touch ID. Production is estimated to be between 25 million and 27 million during the holiday quarter, with sell through of between 22 and 24 million. 'Robust' demand is also expected during Chinese New Year 2018.
For the iPhone 8 Plus, Kuo states that sales are slightly better than initial estimates. As a result, he believes demand for the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X have cannibalized the sales of the iPhone 8. With 'few major selling points', demand for the 4.7-inch iPhone model is 'lower than expected'.
Production for the 4.7-inch iPhone model will drop by 50 to 60 percent during Q1 2018 compared to the holiday quarter. Despite the lower demand for the iPhone 8, Apple is anticipating a record holiday shopping quarter this year, with revenues between US$84 million and US$87 million.
