Celcom Initiates Mobile Network Expansion with Ericsson and Huawei
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Celcom Axiata Berhad recently announced that it will be appointing Ericsson and Huawei to supply Radio Access Equipment as an initiative to build a better mobile network in Malaysia.
A signing ceremony was held to mark this occasion, with Deputy Minister of Information, Communications and Culture, Y.B. Dato’ Joseph Salang and Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly in attendance. Signing on behalf of their respective companies were Abdul Satar Mohamed, Chief Network Officer of Celcom, Arun Bansal, President of Ericsson South East Asia and Oceania, and Dai Jing Yue, Managing Director, Huawei Malaysia.
This merger will see an increase in HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) and LTE (Long Term Evolution)-ready access, which will greatly enhance customer experience. Also, Celcom has prioritized its national 2G and 3G radio access network modernization project at all base stations throughout Malaysia. Huawei will be taking care of rollout for the northern and southern regions plus parts of central and eastern regions, whereas parts of eastern region as well as Sabah and Sarawak will be rolled out by Ericsson.
“Upon full rollout of this project, we will triple our network capacity and will be able to provide to our consumers the best service with enhanced data speed of up to 42 Mbps, superior High Definition (HD) quality voice service, wider and more stable coverage.” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata.
