Apple still unable to launch the AirPower charging pad due to these two issues

It’s almost a year since Apple previewed the AirPower wireless charging pad and we have not heard anything about it. However, Bloomberg claimed to have knowledge of the reasons causing the delay in availability of the AirPower.

Sources told Bloomberg that Apple’s engineers have been trying to fix two issues plaguing the wireless charging pad. The first issue is overheating and the second is related to the complexity of the circuitry.

The AirPower is designed to charge three Apple devices simultaneously and it requires packing multiple charging sensors of different sizes in the pad. This has proved to be a technical challenge. There is also an onboard custom Apple chipset running a stripped down version of iOS to perform power management and pairing with devices.

Apple initially planned to launch the AirPower in June, but had to delay it due to the above mentioned issues. The iPhone maker is currently looking to launch it before or in September. Its engineers have intensified testing by using the wireless charging pad in offices.

The AirPower is a part of a bigger strategy by Apple to move towards a new “wireless future”. By adopting wireless charging, Apple’s designers hope to eliminate most ports and physical buttons on future devices.
