Alcatel Outs World's Thinnest Smartphone at CES 2013
While Huawei, Sony and ZTE battling their hearts out in the 5-inch category, global telecommunications equipment company Alcatel sprung a surprise at CES 2013 by unveiling the world's thinnest smartphone. With a side profile of just 6.45mm thin, the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra looks set to steal some limelight away from ZTE, which announced earlier that its 5-inch Grand S is the thinnest 5-inch Full HD smartphone in the market.
Unlike most of the devices introduced so far, Alcatel bucks the trend by equipping the One Touch Idol Ultra with a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display. The phone is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It also sports an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, both of which are capable of 720p video recording. Its internal usable memory is stated to be 13.3GB.
The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is slated for a launch in China later this month. There is no information at point of publication on its availability in other countries.
