Introduction

In a world of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, few pay attention to the more obscure superzoom bridge SLR offerings due to their comparatively bulkier form factors. FUJIFILM, however, is offering a great reason to start considering this category as a viable option for entry-level users and enthusiasts alike.

The newly-unveiled FUJIFILM X-S1 comes as a part of its esteemed X-series, which finds itself at home with the X100, X10, and the model that created the most buzz during CES 2012, the X-Pro 1. The X-S1, however, represents a superzoom option for X-series’ fans and it hardly disappoints. Built with a 12MP 2/3" EXR CMOS sensor and a 24-624mm equivalent lens – all housed in a sexy molded resin chassis, the X-S1 was designed as an all-in-one camera that delivers a large focal range along with an electronic viewfinder and a flip-out LCD display.

Being as eager to see how the new X-series camera will hold up during testing, we were quick to put it through our series of burning hoops just to see if what’s on the inside is as beautiful as its aesthetic appearance.
